PatternsofPower.org on Substack
The PatternsofPower objective is to enable the powerful to be held to account by providing clarification, resources and comment on the uses and abuses of power. It recognises patterns in the ways that individuals, organisations, and governments exert power over each other and it gathers data on the practical outcomes of each pattern.
Its comments on the use of power are published in the following ways:
It has published a series of books in electronic and paperback format, available to buy at https://www.patternsofpower.org/books/. Edition 4 in this book series was published at the start of 2026.
It publishes occasional blog posts, analysing major events in detail. These are published when the circumstances arise, averaging a post every month or two.
It has been posting daily on social media since the start of Donald Trump’s second term of office, at Bluesky and X. These posts aim to chronicle significant events by linking to a relevant news article, but added comments are constrained by the tweet format.
It is now proposing to use Substack to fill a gap in its communication approach, by commenting weekly on the most significant event in the previous week – aiming at between 200 and 500 words, linked to news articles and content on https://www.patternsofpower.org/.
It is hoped that Substack will widen the reach of PatternsofPower.org and support interesting conversations. The first subject-specific post will be published later today.
